Self-pollination
The process of depositing matured pollen of a flower on the stigma of the same flower is termed as self-pollination.
Cross-pollination.
process of depositing matured pollen of a flower, on the stigma of a flower of same plant or a flower of another plant of the same species is termed as cross-pollination.
Cross-pollination allows to mix characteristics of two plants. It helps to give rise to a strong new generation with new characteristics. Therefore some flowers are adapted to avoid self-pollination and promote cross-pollination. Some of those adaptations are mentioned below
π» Having unisexual flowers,
Bearing of pistilate flowers and staminate flowers separately.
π» Self-Sterility
Fruits are not developed when pollen of a flower is deposited on the stigma of the same flower.
